Elizabeth Fenn's research interests include the early American West, Native American history, and the history of epidemic disease. She is the author of Pox Americana: The Great Smallpox Epidemic of 1775-82 (New York: Hill and Wang, 2001) and Encounters at the Heart of the World: A History of the Mandan People (New York: Hill and Wang, 2013/14). She is the coauthor, with Peter H. Wood, of Natives and Newcomers: The Way We lived in North Carolina before 1770 (Chapel Hill, 1983). Fenn teaches at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she holds the Walter and Lucienne Driskill Chair of Western American History.
